It’s the simple things - It was a particularly hot day in the summer when we were hiking for a few days on the Appalachian Trail. We started the morning northbound from Bake Oven Knob (very apt name for the temperatures that day), crossed the Lehigh River and then climbed one of the spectacular elevations along the way.
I became a very outdoorsy person the summer before I started college in 2014. Old Rag Mountain, was the hike that truly got me into hiking and is what gave me a deeper appreciation for our earth.
I was hiking a piece of the Appalachian trail in Frederick, MD. Two young guys passed me, one carrying a back backpack with his Australian Shepherd in it. I thought to myself, “Hmm..that's weird. I wonder if his dog is handicapped and he is taking him for a hike. How sweet”.
My What Could Be Better? is found in distance running. I feel like it makes me stronger, not just physically, but mentally as well. Since I began running I am happier, I am healthier, and I have more energy for my kids. In fact, I think it makes me a better mom.
My What Could Be Better? is found in climbing, trail running, yoga and distance running – these activities represent a challenge, a way to interact with nature, a way to quiet my mind and find focus. And most of all these activities are a way for me to Be Present and In the Moment.
